Synchronous motor.
Depending on the purpose, different engines were used. In the studio and for television recordings, the exposure was of course at 25 fps and the synchronous motor was used.

The spring motor.
An exceptional motor that can be continuously adjusted between 12 and 48 fps. The large spring is wound by up and down movements.
High performance motor.
This high performance motor can only be used in combination with the intermediate gear, which carries the plug coupling for connecting the battery. The intermediate gear allows the following operating modes: In position 1, the output speed corresponded to the input speed. In position 2 the reduction was 1:1.5; in position 3 1:2 and in position 4 1:4. There was also a "reverse gear" that was about 1:5.1 geared down.
The centrifugal motor.
This was the all-rounder motor of the AK16 camera. It is relatively long but it was also flexible and robust. It was supplied with 12 volts and you could use any car or motorcycle battery. There was also a special acid battery from Pentacon. The motor could be set to different speeds at the lower end: 12, 16, 20, 24 and 32 fps.
Single frame device.
Connected to the camera makes it possible to shoot time lapse, trick films and scientific films.
General info:
The Pentacon AK16 is a 16mm film camera with interchangeable cassettes and various drives. A special feature is that it has an adjustable sector aperture. The nosepiece holds three lenses and has a synchronous aperture adjustment. This camera was extremely advanced for the time.
It was developed in the 1950s by VEB Pentacon Kamera- und Kinowerke (VEB Zeiss-Ikon) (sold from 1953) and was used intensively by many studios in the East until the late 1980s. The heavy weight of the camera was a bit of a disadvantage. This also made it very robust. Here is a summary of the most important features:
